The Police
I just got back from seeing The Police in concert. It was pretty rad. There was a lot of really great rock guitar and some awesome reggaeish bass beats. I also enjoyed the percussion, with the little cymbals and bells and timpani (I believe). Plus, the drummer was silly so I liked him. Sting's voice still sounds great and he's pretty good looking for a man of advancing years (I don't actually know how old he is). They played all their big hits, a bunch of songs I vaguely recognized, and a few more besides.

Before the concert I went to Easy Street Records and bought The Matches' album E. Von Dahl Killed the Locals and the May issue of Kerrang (w/The Used as cover boys..."crazy Bert is back" according to the cover!).

Yes I did! It wasn't even my idea but I'm glad I went along with it because it was quite fun. :)

That got me thinking to when I saw The Police and I realised it was in 1979 which is nearly 30 years ago!!! Isn't that terrible?!
It was in a smallish theatre in Oxford when they were still punks and I was bitterly disappointed that they kept walking off stage because they were being spat on! I mean...this was during THE punk era and spitting was to be expected. I wasn't surprised when they wimped out of the punk scene after using it to gain fame and I've harbored hard feelings toward Sting ever since. ;)
I always had a crush on Stewart Copeland though. Is he still the drummer?

God...I feel so old now! But I'm glad you enjoyed the concert. :)

Ewww to being spat on, but better spit then bottles I guess. I didn't even know that The Police had been part of the punk scene! God, I wish I had lived through that era of music (or at least been old enough to enjoy it).

Yes, Stewart Copeland is still the drummer, and he is kind of adorable. He seemed like he was having a very good time and was really cheerful.

I'm so jealous that you got to go see The Police. They're awesome. Sting does pretty awesome for a man of his age, doesn't he? I don't know his age either.

How's that issue of Kerrang! that you bought? Any good? Kerrang! always has so many issues it's hard to keep up. Plus they're so thin and expensive since they're imports :(

When I heard The Police were touring again I really wasn't planning on going but I'm glad I did. Sting still sounds really great. His singing sounds effortless even after all these years.

TBH, I haven't read the Kerrang yet (just skimmed through it). I have a bad habit of buying magazines and letting them sit around forever, then reading them all at once. I really love the photos of The Used in it though.

Sting's just awesome :)

I have a bad habit with magazines, too. I tend to read them all in one go as soon as possible and then just leave them around and totally forget about them. It makes life more interesting when I'm cleaning my room, I end up sitting and reading old magazines for hours. Oooh good photos of The Used? Awesome. I tend to buy magazines just for awesome pictures.

I find old magazines around a lot too (sometimes in the weirdest places). My favorite pics from that issue of Kerrang are these. After watching YouTube videos of them I'm sort of really in love with Jepha right now.
[identity profile] abuse-myself.livejournal.com on June 26th, 2007 07:15 am (UTC)
Oh those photos! Those are good pictures. Jepha always seems like he'd be a totally awesome person to hang out with. I'm more in love with Quinn, though.

I'm falling for Quinn too as I watch more videos of them. I can't explain why I've latched on to Jepha, it just kind of happened. :)

I can understand the Jepha thing, he's such a chill and easygoing person. Plus he's hilarious with his randomness. He's got a thing for tea, which I find amusing. Quinn is such a sweetheart. I was a little disappointed when there were some articles quoting him being a jerk about the whole MCR/Bert bust-up or something along those lines but I have since believed that it was clearly just a media thing and not a Quinn thing. I think it's the whole floppy dyed blonde hair and puppy dog brown eyes thing that makes me melt. Plus his passion for making random YouTube videos is hilarious.

Yeah, Jepha does seem really chill. Plus he has awesome tattoos, seems really cuddly, and has a nice speaking voice. I read the stuff that Quinn said about MCR and I hope it was a misunderstanding. I didn't think I'd like him so much after reading that stuff but his silliness on YouTube won me over. Yesterday I watched a video (it might have been from their dvd?) w/Quinn and Jepha "answering fan questions" (possibly in a laundry closest?) and they were totally loaded and it was HYSTERICAL. :)

Jepha does seem cuddly, now that you mention it. I do like his speaking voice, as well. Quinn's silliness definitely kind of wins me over any misunderstandings in the press. Yep, the fan questions was from the DVD. I almost peed my pants laughing at them, Quinn and Jepha together are hilarious :D Have you seen that thing on YouTube with Quinn and Jepha as wizards? So funny!
[identity profile] equanimity23.livejournal.com on June 29th, 2007 06:19 am (UTC)
Yes, I've seen the "wiztards" video. The two of them are an absolute riot together.
